Mining

Currently, all company deposits are digitally modeled and planning of mining at the units in operation is done with the use of advanced software.COPELMI currently operates open-air mines, using the strip-mining method with excavation ranging from 40m to 80m deep.

The mining process is initiated by removing the tailings covering the coal layers. After coal has been exposed, it is taken to pieces with explosives and transported to the processing plant.

Medium-sized and state-of-the-art equipment is used for mining, such as: hydraulic digging machines, off-road trucks and crawler tractors. This equipment provides great operational flexibility, making it possible to operate mines with many layers of coal.

Our concern about minimizing the environmental impact caused by mining is present in all stages, from the deposition of tailings, in accordance with the original stratigraphy of the land, to drainage of the mine, subsequently sent to the water treatment system at the processing plant.
